Karachi targeted killing doctor

A doctor was shot dead by unidentified assailants in a targeted attack near Shahrah-e-Faisal close to Metropole in Karachi, according to police and local media reports.

The victim, identified as Dr. Sarang, was travelling in a rickshaw with his wife when armed men in a car intercepted their vehicle. Police said the attackers opened fire on the doctor in full view of his wife before fleeing the scene. The incident caused panic in the busy area.

Dr. Sarang’s body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities. He was reportedly returning home from Cantt Station at the time of the attack and worked at a private hospital in the city.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the killing and are examining multiple angles to determine the motive behind what appears to be a targeted attack. Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects involved.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over security in Karachi, particularly in high-traffic urban areas where targeted killings and street crimes have been reported in recent months.

Earlier, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho had taken notice of rising street crime in the city and ordered stricter measures, including enhanced patrols, intelligence-based operations, and improved surveillance through CCTV systems.

He directed senior police officials to identify crime hotspots and ensure swift action against criminal networks, stressing that law and order must not be allowed to deteriorate.

The killing of Dr. Sarang has intensified public concern and renewed calls for stronger policing and better security arrangements across Karachi.
